Day 5

Witness and be His witnesses.
Acts 1:6–11

We spend a lot of time leading up to Easter focusing on the resurrection of Jesus. And rightfully so. His death and resurrection are what freed us from our sins and gave us eternal life. But what about our time left here on earth? What are we called to do while we wait to join Jesus in heaven one day?

In Acts 1: 6–11, just before Jesus’s ascension into heaven, he tells us exactly what we are called to do. He says we are to “be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” He is essentially telling us that we are to share the good news of his love and resurrection here, there, and everywhere—all across the world. As Waumba Land and UpStreet volunteers, we get to share the good news of Jesus here in our local community every Sunday. We have the privilege of teaching some of the youngest children about how much God loves them, that God made them, and that Jesus wants to be their friend forever. And in UpStreet, we get to guide children to place their faith in Jesus by teaching them who God is and how he wants them to live. We get to help lay the foundation for their future relationship with Christ.

This may seem like a huge responsibility. We are to continue to pour into others while we wait until an unknown time when Jesus will eventually return. But good news! He promised to send the Holy Spirit down to dwell in all those who believe in him. "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.” He has equipped all believers to do the work he has called us to do. We get to be his hands and feet during our time here on earth. We get to wake up every Sunday and share the love of Jesus with the next generation. We get to go and be his witnesses!

 CHALLENGE: Think about…

  1. How do these verses personally impact you?
  2. How do these verses impact you as you serve on a Sunday?
